Show A SOME FOR BOYS OF OGDEN Phoenix, Arizona, April 14, 1911. Editor of the Standard. I have been reading of the trouble they are having hav-ing in Ogden with the High school boys going to tho pool rooms, and, as a mother, would like to say the following, in regard to this matter. We are all anxious to keep our boys away from the pool rooms and the saloons, as we all fully understand the danger of their going to these places, and as a parent feel that our first duty to our boys and young mon is to prepare a better place where they can spend their time We cannot expect to keep them at home all the time, they must have recreation and amusement, amuse-ment, and should be provided with a place where the lights ar just as bright; the chairs just as comfortable, and where there are so many interesting inter-esting amusements that they have no time or desire to go to those other places. A Y. M. C. A., I am thinking of. I have been spending the winter in Phoenix, Arizona, and hae been favorably fa-vorably impressed with the beautiful new home the people of this city have just built for their boys, and there is not a boy or young man of the town, that docs not want to belong. They already have about eight1 hundred members, and Phoenix Is not as large as Ogden within fifteen thousand. The boys are divided Into classes, each of which has a time at the gymnasium gym-nasium and swimming tank. There aro also special classes with teachers in certain branches of learning. It Is a ipleaaant sight to step into this beautiful bnllding in the evening, and see how many men are being entertained, en-tertained, some reading, others playing play-ing on the piano; while, others are resting in large easy chairs. I think if our Ogden boys had something like this, ve would not have any trouble in keeping them away from Che dangerous places, and if we, the parents and friends, of the boys, would work just as hard for this purpose, to organize and have a Y. M. C, A. built, as we have done to close the saloons and pool rooms, we would soon meet with success, and in a short time would have such a beautiful home for the boys to congregate congre-gate in, for rest, recreation and pleasure, pleas-ure, so that the boys would have no wish to go to the saloons or such nlaceB, and would soon have such a Building as Ogden would bo proud of.
