Show H INDIGNATION OF AN OUTSIDE GROCER. H No ono interested in the questions presented by this paper in 1 relation to the "Grocers' Combine ' in Ogden, should fail to read the -U letter of The Ward-Boice company of Rock Springs, Wyoming, ap- H pearing in another part of this issue of the Standard. The communi- H cation is addressed to the proprietor of the paper and came to him mU unsolicited and, therefore, is a voluntary statement from a prom- M inent grocery company, the manager of which is well known in this mmV1 H Thee are three important facts brought out in the letter which Wt go far to clear the atmosphere of the dust which tho grocers have Hr been making in tho hope of blinding the people of this community. H First, the Rock Springs grocery house confirms the accuracy of H the figures as quoted from its price list, and appealing in this paper M in tabulated form, by having those figures reproduced in an adver- H tisement in its home paper, the Rock Springs Miner. H Second, the Rock Springs grocery store, without hesitation, ad- fl mits that it can buy its goods from Ogden wholesalers, ship those M goods to Rock Springs and make a profit on those goods at prices M ranging from 10 per cent to 150 per cent less than tho samo goods H are sold in Ogden. H Third, the Rock Springs firm congratulates this paper on its fight H ' for the people, which endorsement of our protest against the "Gro- H cers' Combine' is equivalent to a statement from the Rock Springs H firm that there must be a combine here that is robbing tho people, H as such exorbitant prices could not otherwise prevail. 1 A reputable grocery firm of twenty-five years business experi-H experi-H j ' ence says, in effect, that the Ogden grocers are outrageously abusing M their privilegesjn Ogden. Is that not good authority, and is not that H an absolute justification of this paper's campaign against the men H who are ruining the business and industrial prospects of this city? H Men who have been in the grocery business for ten years and who H voluntarily endorse the Standard's fight certainly are moved to do H so by no other motive than that they cannot keep still in the knowl- Hl edge of the abuses being practiced by the Grocers' Combine in Ogden. 1 Read the letter and then ask yourself if any further evidence fl of the mistreatment being accorded Ogden consumers is necessary. |
