Show TOMATO FACTORY 0FFERS1LY $8 (Special lo Standard.) Plain City, Feb. S Without a dissenting dis-senting voice a resolution, "pledging ourselves to tho support of this movement move-ment was adopted at a farmers' meeting meet-ing held hero last night. By "this movemont" is meant the effort on the part of farmers In Weber, Davis, Box-elder Box-elder and Cache counties to boost the price of beets for the year 1911 up to $5.00 a ton on the cars rather than at the factory. The preambles to tho resolution state that in the opinion of "fully 90 to 98 per cent of the heet-srowcrs, heet-srowcrs, the farmer Is justly entitled to at least $5 00 per ton f. o. b. cars for sugar beets." " No action was taken at this meeting-with reference to the price of tomatoes, to-matoes, though that subject came in for some attention. It was couceded that the local cannery, because of Its remoteness from the railroad, cannot pay the price ($10.00 per ton) demanded de-manded by the meeting held in the court house some two weeks ago. Besides, Be-sides, It was (i common belief among tomato men here that the local cannery can-nery would not In any case be operated operat-ed this year. There, therefor, seemed to bo no reason for the farmers of Plain City to take any specific action with regard to' the price of tomatoes for the year 1911. Besides, as regards re-gards tomatoes, there was a pronounced pro-nounced disposition to "be careful and conservative, and know what we are doing," with tho result that the tomato to-mato question was quietly dropped. Later on It was authoritatively announced an-nounced that tho Plain City cannery will be run this year, it sufficient tomatoes to-matoes can be had The price to be paid will be SS.00 a ton. This is $1.00 a ton less than the price paid at .Plain City last year. j. w. S. |
