Show WAITING FOR OFFICERS' REPORT WASHINGTON, Jan. 1C Not until the complaining officers or the West Virginia have been heard from will the navy department be In a position to determine whether there shall be any proceedings in the case of Admiral Ad-miral Barry If it should be decided In the affirmative, af-firmative, the mere fact that the accused ac-cused officer has voluntarily retired would not shield him from punishment in the case of a court-martial resulting in conviction. Under the regulations which specificially define the punishment' punish-ment' for each offense, a person convicted con-victed In such case, If an officer, would bo liable to severe penalty or confinement not to excreJ fifteen years and expulsion frorfi the naval "service, cutting off all retired pay. There Is no record of the trial of a naval officer under these conditions, though many bluejackets havo secured conviction. |
