Show Theaters to Win Back From Moving Picture Shows Their Patrons Chicago, June 9. In a war on moving mov-ing picture shows, balcony and gallery prices have been slashed at a downtown down-town theatre where a play under the management of Daniel Frohman Is being be-ing pn'luccd. On Monday a concerted plan will be submitted to all of the theatrical managers in Chicago who present hlqh-class plays. On his return re-turn to New York, Mr. Frohman, who Is now In Chicago, will take up the subject with the managers thore and an effort will be made to make the movement country-wide. "Very many people go to the moving mov-ing picture shows simply because they cannot afford to see plays." said Mr. Frohman last night "We need the gallery gods. The last time Sir Henry Irving was hero he sadly commented on the fact that his beloed gods were missing. They are a most potent factor fac-tor In the prosperltv of tho drama, bo-cause bo-cause they are Interested, enthusiastic and demonstrative. "If thpy annrove a play, they show It. If thev disapprove, thoy shqw it, and they form the best barometer of public opinion. If the play Is not good, the sooner we know It, the better. "We wish to make this proposition mutual, by 'bringing tho drama within reach of the people who cannot now afford to attend." |
