Dainty girls with fnirly good voices, classy costumes and some scenic effects ef-fects which would he haid to improve upon, go to make up thc really crcdlt-ablo crcdlt-ablo features of "A Broken Idol," which was 6een at tho Ogden theater last night. Miss Porlc BartI, as Marlon PugS' ley, Is certainly one member of tho cast who should be retained. Sho is a dainty little miss with consldornble vocal ability and makes her greatest hit in the scone incident to "lavo Makes the World Go Round." Jack West, as a bug professor, is good. The scene at the conclusion of tho first act and Introducing the livings dragon Is one of tho prottiest staco sol tings ovor Been at tho Ogden. In fact, tho scenes throughout the entire production are very elaborate and pleasing. Tho first act of "A Broken Tdol" presents Chinatown. Los Angeles, Ange-les, during tho Chinese New Year colouration, colo-uration, and affords ample opportunity for Oriental splendor. Thc notion of tho second act takes place in an aristocratic aris-tocratic home in San Monicn. Cnl., and, of course, this permits of somo moro olabroato sconery. The effective effec-tive staging of the production is its groatest rosource. |
