Show BAD MAN IN CUSTODY HERE Sheriff John Ward, Deputy Sheriff Ed Brannan and Special Officer A. B. Scruggs of Evanston, Wyoming, of tor a long chase after horse thieves, arrived ar-rived In Ogden last evening, having in custody Clarence Elliott. They were on the way back to Cranston where Elliott will be held for horse stealing steal-ing Tho officers started out a couple of weeks ago to Capture Abe Murdock, a half-breed Indian, who had been stealing horses from tho Wyoming country and running them into Utah, through the Uintah Reservation section sec-tion and- Into Wasatch and Utah counties coun-ties Officer ScruggB came across tho half-breed a few day6 ago and the Indian In-dian Is no more. When Mr. Scruggs told the thief to throw up hlB hands he failed to do so. On the contrary Murdock went after his gun with his right hand, nnd, foo.ng that there was no time to sparo, the officer "beat him to it." by firing a shot Into his body, causing Instant death. This capture wbb so complete that a trial will not be necessary. Elliott, another member of the gang of horse thieves, was arrested a few days ago by the sheriff of Carbon countv in Soldiers' canyon, about 40 miles" north of Price. He had four head of horses that wore recently stolen stol-en from the Wyoming country It was roported in the Salt Lake Herald yesterday that Elliott has confessed con-fessed to Scruggs of the stealing of the animals and had 'Implicated thirteen thir-teen other men of tho range In the theft.
