Show Bean Pickers Needed Soon i Workers- Needed to j Save Vital Crop j Pointing out 'that the biggest imortiat "headache" for Cache ; .county farmers and labor agen- I cies is to obtain pickers for the largest bean crop in history, G. Alvin Carpenter, state supervisor for 'emergency farm labor, on Thursday issued an urged call for women and children to pick beans in the county next week. "Since beans are one of the nation's vital war crops, it is necessary that they be harvested immediately with as little waste as possible," the state Supervisor declared. "Anyone who can spare a few hours or a few days to pick beans should contact the county agent's office or the United States Employment Service Ser-vice office at 51 East First North Street." At two cents -per pound, some of the more industrious pickers could earn $8 or $9 per day, he said. However, some of the younger pickers probably will need rather careful supervision to keep them on the job. ', Mr. Carpenter pointed out that the next big hand job will be ' harvesting of the tomato crop . -which will begin the latter part of Au trust. |
