Show Utah Takes Pride in Flier's Achievement j Utah is proud that one of its sons was one of the pilots in the bombing- expedition over Japan recently. re-cently. He is Lieutenant Chase J. Nielsen of Hyrum and for his part in the bold venture he was awarded a distinguished flying cross. The war department has released a little moe information about the raid which is reported to have caused considerable damage to Japanese industrial centers. Urigadier General James H. Doolittle, who led the flight of American bombers, said that the squadron blasted a 40-mile strip of fire and destruction through vital defense areas in Japan on April 28 and laughed at the claims of the Japs that they had brought down nine planes. Not one of the warplanes was lost, the former speed flier declared. Details of the flight are still a closely guarded secret and the jumping off spot and the landing place after! the bombing attack will probably not be known for some time, if at all during the war. The raid was well executed and the damage to Japanese war efforts and morale was no doubt considerable. Lieutenant Nielsen has helped to bring fame to his native state and his home town. His parents, Floyd and Carrie Miller Nielsen of Hyrum, can be justly proud of this achievement of their son and hope that this is the first of a series of accomplishments that will carry him further along the road to fame.
