Show Board Sets May 28 As County Closing Date The Cache county school district dis-trict board of educatoin decided to eliminate Saturday school classes clas-ses and add another week to the school year to make up for time lost in "beet harvest" vacation last fall, at their regular meeting on Thursday. Superintendent J. W. Kirkbride faced the alternative of holding Saturday classes which should interfere in-terfere with student work projects at the Utah Quartermaster depot at Ogden or extending the school year a week past the original May 21 closing date. "The board chose what it believed be-lieved to be the lesser of two evils," Superintendent Kirkbride said.' He pointed out that the new closing time might affect the spring beet thinning season work projects but pointed out that the only other alternative under state law would be Saturday classes. The board also adopted a policy that school auditoriums and gymnasiums gym-nasiums would be used rent free by farm, civilian defense and other groups working in war effort for meetings but that aU meetings in the school buildings must close by midnight. . |
