Show LUCKY OR UNLUCKY "I want to try my luck," is the remark of many when they are taking some gambling chance. The idea fceems to exist in many minds that some people are naturally lucky and some are naturally unlucky. These 'folks would argue that if it is demonstrated that a person is habitually unlucky, he would do well to avoid such chances. Even then they might say that luck turns, so perhaps they would advise him to keep trying Ihis luck, hoping that Fickle Fortune, which so long Jias frowned on him, is just ready to smile and pour her treasures into his lap, if he would only try just .once more. This type of people would hope as to themselves, .that they might come in the fortunate class who natural-y natural-y are lucky. If they do get a few strokes of luck in Borne game of chance, they become full of confidence that the fates of the gambling world have a liking for them. This idea that some people are naturally lucky and some naturally unlucky, seems to be without foundation. Some folks appear unlucky because they keep doing things which get them into trouble. Some people have their heads in a cloud of dreams, and if they get hurt while gazing at these roseate visions, it is not due to a ji;x that plots their fate, but lucky because they have a kind of shrewd perception and judgement of the way to do things. In the long run, given people of equal intelligence and watchfulness, the lucky and the unlucky turns seem to average up about the same. The people who depend on their luck usually find that there are many more chances of failure than of success. Hard work I and intelligence are about the only means of finding j good fortune. |
