I Dr. Lewis M. Turner, an official I for many years with the U. S. For-est For-est service in Washington, D. C, now dean of the school of forestry and range management, has arrived ar-rived on the campus and will take i over duties of Dr. L. A. Stoddart, i professor of range management, vho has served during the past I year. -Dr. Stoddart has acted since Paul M. Dunn resigned last sum- I mer. j Dr. 'Turner, comes to U S A C upon Uie personal recommendation of Dr. Lyle M. Watts, chief of the U. S. Forest Service, with whom Dr. Turner has been associated asso-ciated in Washington, D. C. Dr. Watts was first head for the school of forestry at U S A C which was I set up in 1929. Before entering he forest ser-1 vice, where he has been employed I for several yars, Dr. Turner served I as professor of forestry at the Uni- ! versity of Arkansas. He obtained his master's degree from the University Uni-versity of Illinois and his sdoctor-ate sdoctor-ate at the University of Chicago where he specialized in the field rtf pmloffv. As a conservationist in the forest for-est service, Dr. Turner has been in charge of phases of flood and erosion control projects in the Miss ssippi valley and has had field experenee in the various, sciences which are incorporated in the combined school of forestry and range at the college. Dr. Arthur H. Holmgren has j been appointed assistant professor of botany and curator of the In-termountain In-termountain herbarium at the college. col-lege. He fills a vacancy left by Dr. Bassett Maguire who resigned to accept a position as curator at the New York Botanical gardens in Brooklyn, N. Y. Back on the campus after a year's sabbatical leave is George Barnes, assistant professor of forestry. for-estry. During the year he has studied toward a Ph. D. degree in forestry at Duke University in North Carolina. G. Homer Durham, assistant professor of political science, returned re-turned to the oampus recently to resume duties following a year's leave of absence from the faculty. During the past year he has been an instructor in political science at Skarthmore college in Pennsylvania. |
