Show Arizona Man Named Apostle Fills One of Two Vacancies Spencer Wooley Kimball, 48, president pre-sident of the Mt. Widtsoe was ordained a member of the council of twelve apostles, that a new apostle has been an. nounced other than at a church general conference. Mr. Kimball fills one of the two vacancies in the council of twelve apostles caused by the deaths of Sylvester Q. Cannon and Rudger Clawson. The new apostle left Thursday afternoon for Provo. He plans to return to Arizona until the October semiannual conference of the church. After he is sustained sus-tained by church representatives assembled in conference, he will be ordained. Mr. Kimball was born in Salt Lake City March 28, 1895, son of Andrew and Olive Woolley Kimball. Kim-ball. His grandfathers were Heber O. Kimball, pioneer leader and counselor to Brigham Young, and Edwin Dilworth Woolley, who was bishop of the Thirteenth ward 40 years and also was business manager man-ager for President Young. When he was three years old his father was called by the first presidency to go to Arizona and preside over .the St. Joseph stake at Thatcher. He since has resided in Arizona, where he attended Gila junior college and the University Uni-versity of Arizona. He served as a missionary in the central states from 1914 to lai7. In 1924 when a new president presi-dent of St. Joseph stake was sustained, sus-tained, he was made counselor and stake clerk, serving in these capacities ca-pacities until 1938, when Mt. Graham Gra-ham stake was organized and he was made stake president. |
