Show Deb Young To Coach , Aggie Casaba Squad Dolberi. (Ueb) Young, hcad$ track and field coach and assist- ant football' coach at Utah State I Agricultural college, has been ap- pointed to coach the Utah Aggie basketball team by the college board of trustees. The action was taken on the recommendation of the athletic council and E. L. Romney, director di-rector of athletics. Coach Young will serve in place of Bob Burnett Bur-nett who is in the armed forces. A former all-conference athlete, 1 Young coached the 1942 Aggie basketball team on a temporary ! arrangement. Last year ' the sport was dropped at the former school r and he was serving as physical training instructor for the army air corps cadets who were stationed sta-tioned at USAC. Several promising basketeers, who are not on the Aggie grid team, have been working out during the past two months under un-der direction of Earl (Hap) Holm-stead, Holm-stead, who was a standout player on the Logan Collegians last season. sea-son. Organized practice will get underway when students return to school November 27 after the Thanksgiving holiday. In addition to Holmstead, Coach Young will have several promising promis-ing player to mould a squad with. Grant (Sugar) Mortensen, former all-Idaho, stater; Lyle Hale, who played his freshman year with the Wyoming Cowboys, Clint Nelson, former M-man great, all members of last year's Collegians., Colle-gians., are back. Some of the outstanding freshmen fresh-men are Con Maughan, Marvin Ahrams, and Bob Hansen, who started for South Cache; Jack Donovan, a Casper, Wyo., high school great; Cliff Hoopians, West; Ernie Groll and Royal Reid, Lo-y Lo-y gan, and Keith Whitesides of Davis. Udell Wankier, a squads-member squads-member in 1942, also is a good possibility. |
