Show Postwar Agricultu ral Planners Vote To Expand Commi ttee, Operations Members of the Utah Agricultural Agricul-tural postwar planning committee voted to expand their investigations investiga-tions and change methods to a policy making and program development de-velopment unit, at a meeting of the group Tuesday at the college. Dr. R. H- Walker, dean of the 4, USAC school of agriculture and director of the Utah Experiment station, who is chairman of the committee, presided at the session. He announced that the group will increase it's membership to 15 or 17 members and then appoint ap-point special sub-committees to investigate and report on new irrigation and land development projects which will limprove agricultural ag-ricultural life in the state. The state committee then will review their findings and either adopt or discard recommendations for state policy, Dr. Walker said. i Dr. W. P- Thomas, professor of agricultural economics and marketing at USAC, gave a report re-port on adjustments that are considered favorable for the state's 1945 crop goals, and George D. Clyde, dean of the school of engineering, discussed postwar planning report of the Land-grant college association. Philip Smith and Ora Bundy discussed irrigation developments and compacts in the Beneville basin and Colorado river basin and J. H. Maughan reported " briefly on a survey on "inventory of irrigaton development possibilities." possibil-ities." Activity committees will be set up to study such jrojects as disposal of surplus U. S- property and land, establishment of returning re-turning veterans in agricultural enterprises, and rural health problems, Dr. Walker said. Mrs. Ella V. Reeder, Brigham city, chairman of the home and community section, Utah State Farm Bureau, gave an interesting interest-ing report on a proposed health and 'nutrition program. The group will meet December 5 1st in Ogden to select new members mem-bers for the committee in an attempt at-tempt to make it more representative represen-tative of agricultural interests in the state. All officers and directors direc-tors were re-elected. |
