Show rho Leamington Reaarvoir. The Immense new Leamington reservoir reser-voir to be errected on the lower Sevier below and north of Fayotte will be of large proportions. Says a Gnanison friend to The Sentinel: It will probably cost when finished somewhere abont 1,000,000 dollars. One-half One-half to bny right of way aud the rest to build the dam and canal. The dim is to be 60 feet high and it is expected to back up tho water for 14 miles and will be 4 miles wide in some places. It is expected to irrigate fully 500,000 acres of desert lands and carry water to the Tintic country and even to the Jordan. The enterprise so far is onward and controlled by local territorial terri-torial capitalists witk Bishop Lars N. Christiansen at the head. Another informant states the reservoir reser-voir will easily bapply water for 100,000 acres, the resei voir to cover 20 square miles and wilt be 20 feet deep on c general average. W. H. Robinson is the hydraulic engineer in charge. This gentleman has had large experience in snch matters in Colorado, California and Arizona, and he Is reported as expressing ex-pressing henever saw a better field of operations. The ground to be irrigated has many flowing wells and natural water supplies, and will consequently take less water than other localities would. The canal is to be 17 miles. The lay of the conntry is generally level, the fall being about 4 feet to the mile. Tbe lake formed will be 12 miles 1-ng and will come quite close to the town of Fayette. Tbe location of the lake has been surveyed, and the engineering engi-neering party are now fixing the details of the construction of tbe dam and canal. It is expected the farms destro) ed by being made the bed of this bojy of water will cost in the neighborhood neighbor-hood of 20,000 dollars. |
