Show DOWN THE DRAIN I 1 every day our mail box is crammed to the hilt with hot news releases sent out by concerns who have something to sell and hope to get a little free publicity the most regular and persistent offenders contributors if you prefer are agencies of the united states government A few weeks ago acro Z we noticed a new release being sent out and since that time we have regularly received a once a week news release from this agency the office of salary stabilization maybe it was a coincidence that mail included included a news release from the office of salary stabilization and one from the wage stabilization board both came in ill envelopes postmarked from denver so turning from our usual custom of consigning such letters to the waste paper basket we opened th the envelopes and found that the office of salary stabilization has its office at new customhouse I 1 tom toni house building denver while the wage stabilization board has its office at new custom house building denver or did the wage stabilization board have its office at new customhouse building denver and the office of salary stabilization new customhouse building denver well anyway the office of salary stabilization has its office in the same building as the wage stabilization board having been without a wage or salary for a year or two the thought occurred to us that we had forgotten the fine shading of the english language maybe we were so stupid that we know the difference between the words wage and salary so far as we can tell by reading the news releases from the wage stabilization board and the office of salary stabilization both the wage stabilization board and the office of salary stabilization are concerned with the regulation and enforcement of wage stabilization policies if by this time you dont see anything funny about this editorial we dont see anything funny about it either theres nothing funny about devoting one third of ones wage or salary to support two government agencies who apparently are performing the same function it would seem that a big saving in tax money and efficiency could be made by combining the two offices better still would be the abolition of both offices whose efforts to control inflation have ended in a f farce arce |
