Show mothers day 1952 by faye london I 1 woke up sunday morning remembering mem bering it was Af mothers others day and I 1 seen my mom for about nine days although she live only a short three milet miles away that is it used to be short until the floods came ted said he would borrow a horse from sam and ride up and see how the folks were and then come back to church about he return eil and with him came mother alother she too had come down on oil a horse to attend the mothers day services she said she mind riding thru the water V ate r a as s long as she 1 had ia a an n ollo gwng aishe arvic e escort i t BO 0 f following ing ahe s services e e s she and ted rode back to the ranch we bad decided that the three boys and I 1 would ride as f far ar as ne lie could up the back road in the car and then walk along the hill to the ranch about a mile the creek has left its natural ch channel annel above the forks of 0 theroan the road and cut across the road for about yards in this particular place onto the clouch farm where it has cut a new channel and runs with great force along the lower part of 01 the field for about a fourth of a mile then it cuts across the road again into the wildes pasture and back into the original creek bed on the a side of the bridge below the forks the other part of the creek comes down the main croydon irrigation ditch and cuts across the state highway for about feet into more of wildes pasture this division of the creek leaves the creek bed at the bridge almost high and dry now back to my story ted had safely escorted mother home and had returned to the flooded part of the field where dad and my brother wayne were attempting to remove a log from the new creek in their field As ted attempted to ride across the horse got in deep water and was washed down stream ted jumped off before they reached the log jam and both he and the horse went under the log and came out some rome distance down stream itsou have seen him lately you know how low the cuts and scratches on his bia head came about meanwhile the boys and I 1 ha had devoured detoured the flooded part of the field and were preparing to finish our walk along the road when the bishop appeared on his tractor and graciously offered us a lift alt all four of us climbed on behind him finished our journey to the ranch where we enjoyed a delicious dinner cooked by mom that evening dad offered us the use of the be tractor to take us bark back to where the road Is washed this time all five of us climbed on rode about a mile and then walked back again through the field to our car baked on the other side it was a wonderful mothers day despite near tragedy and mom aloin and I 1 decided we had just a little bit in common with our pioneer ancestors |
