Show RANGE TOUR IS MADE IN SUMMIT fourteen range owners of morgan along with others from 11 utah counties went on a tour of E east a st range county land last tuesday they toured by truck the woo acres of land of which s successfully uc cess fully has been re res ceded seeded on mountain slopes east of floyt Z ville need of a way to overcome the grazing brazing and erosion losses that have been felt by the west the past decades has been fe felt it for some time past and the way was demonstrated to these men who visited the range land in 1911 a steep slope of shallow burned over soil was re seeded and since that time they have increased their planted land to 30 acres the visitors were much impressed by the results obtained on the rocky roe land some of it sloping as much as age 30 once of little or no value to stockman but now supporting large flocks of sheep mixture planted mostly smooth brome and crested wheatgrass wheat grass with yellow sweet clover orchard and rye grass added in varying amounts depending on terrain and direction of slope give a good stand for grazing as well as reducing erosion and encroachment of sage brush on the land the sheep are owned by individual members of the company and fed on their farms during the winter after lambing usually in early april the flocks are turned out together in the company herd and graze on the company land until about mid october when they are brought back to the owners farms members of the company say their land now capable of supporting more sheep than are now ow grazing it is still improving lambs which formerly sold at 75 pounds or less are arc now averaging better than 00 90 pounds those attending the tour from morgan included dale porter clarence thurston hilliard illiard II will williams iams herbert olsen ray ray rust joe toone burton lewis lewis frogner byran pace jack kippen arthur johansen lee rol roii lins and horace andrews |
