| Show S services set for hero of iwo jima I 1 corp cori roy K eastman memorial services for corp roy K eastman 21 former resident oal of morgan organ will be conducted at I 1 pm saturday at larkin mortuary at adams ogden by bishop bis ho P elmer cottrell of the ogden fourteenth ward corp eastman was killed on iwo jima feb 20 0 o 1045 while serving with the twenty seventh marines adall company E of the fifth division ile he arrived on iwo jima the day before his death corp eastman was born aug 9 1923 in woodruff a son of george W and sarah bryson eastman with his family he moved to morgan where he attended school and graduated from the morgan ary he later moved to clearfield where he attended davis county high school he was a member of the clearfield ward ile he entered the marine corps feb 12 1913 1943 training at san diego cal and later joining the paratroop division training at camp gillespie san diego in august 1943 he be was sent into action in the battle of the solomons on bougainville bougainvillea Bou gainville and choiseul Crois eul where the second paratroop battalion won a citation in i n 1943 in january 1944 he returned to the united states for a 30 day furlough and in february reported at camp pendleton ore from august to january 1945 i he was given extensive training an fn in the pacific and participated in battles of the belta nad la lavilla villa islands landing on iwo jima feb 19 1945 5 i prior to enlisting he was employed by the woods cross canning co and layton sugar co surviving are his parents st south ogden and the following brothers and sisters elvi ain in G and vaughn G eastman milton wash sam eastman evanston wyo mgt conray B eastman lowry field colo mrs airs john ogden mrs airs porter carter and mrs airs bessie giles morgan american legion post no 67 morgan will conduct military services ic es at the graveside in north morgan cemetery |
