Show land leveling Is major work of conservation group officials report on leveling work this fall information on conservation 0 of f pastures Is related by local officials soil conservation work in morgan district is at present centered around land leveling with harry wilkinson completing operations of the work with an eight yard carryall officials reported this week larry calder manager of the state fish hatchery is well pleased with the work being done by mr wilkinson under supervision of fred morgan district engineer we think larry deserves a pat on the back for the improvements being carried out under his management when his plans mature well have an outstanding attraction for morgan county fish swimming in clear moving water surrounded by neat grassy borders and a gravelled travelled gravel led road from which to see them says ray kerr of the soil service ellis and melvin each have fields started for leveling under district supervision and virgil stewart plans to have his 2 j iacre pasture leveled when the leveling ling is completed district technicians will assist mr stewart in planning an irrigation project to facilitate rotation grazing james palmer lee durrant jack thackeray and bill turner are all anxious anxious to get leveling work started on their farms and mr air wilkinson is delirious desi rious of doing every bit of leveling work as the weather perin permits its croydon district members have leveling work scheduled for about two weeks and round valley farmers want their work done as soon as possible it is pointed out that more large equipment is needed for this work but officials assert that everything possible will be done with the equipment now available range utilization checks are being made now on morgan ranges the results at present show a nee need for more careful and strict management due duc to the very dry summer it may be necessary xo to cut the numbers of cattle to be turned out next spring some pastures in morgan county are being badly treated it is reported and soil conservation district members are encouraged to treat grass and clover with care this fall so that good pastures may be had next year plants must store up food for winter just as people and animals do give them a chance by moving animals off when cold nights slow down growth officials advise district supervisors are interested in ideas on conservation and improvement pro and they should be turned in to the morgan office |
