Show LINES by LIZA I 1 think ive been inhaling too much oxygen these last few days I 1 feel fee 1 somewhat vague this evening do you imagine oxygen might cause such an effect ive spent most of this week in the back yard going through all the motions of it being b ing an industrious gardener ive dug up everything divided everything every thin topped replanted everything and ill bet dollars to doughnuts not a daisy blooms next spring no green fingered wizard am I 1 worse luck but our back yard is just full of fresh air and ripe apples so gardening is a pleasant pastime right now I 1 hate to admit that large areas of myself are rebelling painfully at the unaccustomed exertion however they sa strong medicine banishes anisher anis hes great ills maybe my large arge areas will disappear I 1 hope if this ardently desired metamorphosis takes place or even if it you may expect to see me in n pioneer garb light as rock studiously confusing myself in a quadrille come 1947 yes indeed since we attended the centennial conference in salt lake city last week we have all been projected a year forward and a hundred years backward sounds peculiar I 1 know but anything is is possible in this atomic age according to dr eyring of the U ol of U if all the dreams and hopes and plans ians of the members of the utah state centennial commission come true and most of them will I 1 think hink 1047 1947 is slated to be a year r of magnificent tribute to the pioneer founders and the progress of our state these past hundred years utah will come into her heritage as a state to be recognized historically culturally and geographically for example gus backman manager for the centennial program told us that the parade on the and of july will cost approximately one quarter of a million dollars seven sister states will participate in it it will be an evening event which sir air backman chortled will make the rose bowl affair look like a tin horn show of course the parade is just one of many worthwhile events scheduled throughout most of next year there is one thing to remember though and all of us should consider it seriously to make this centennial a real success and to get the most out of it none of us can sit back and be spectators we must all be participants it will behoove each of us to take part in reviving the fine old songs and dances of our pioneer forefathers believe me folks I 1 think it is a privilege a pleasure and an enriching experience to be ven this opportunity to flip back the pages of time and do honor to the memory of our early is settlers ettie ra by the way are you going to trim yours with and jet bugle beads or are you going to dig one of grandmothers out of the trunk in inthe the attic ill bet you will have to let out the seams coming back to last saturday y ni morning orning from a hundred years ago quite a trick folks I 1 found our morgan high school band and chorus assembled in the tabernacle er also assembled all eyes and ears forward were commissioner and mrs airs if 11 crouch mr air and mrs airs V W shaw and daughter mrs airs ralph sanford and mr air and mrs airs charles white of course there were hundreds more in the critical audience of educators but mr air terry and these maroon clad youn eople belonged exclusively to us from morgan they gave a beautiful performance artistic and fine in every respect and were we pleased and were we proud and did we ap klaudt what do you think r F E IV |
