Show BUS AUTO CRASH KILLS 2 IN MORGAN W J 3 4 ive cwm aw cf scene following crash in morgan county which claimed the lives live s of two salt lake city men morgan countes coun tys traffic record for 1946 was marred near midnight saturday with the death of two salt lake city youths at gateway in weber canyon the two met their deaths when the automobile in which they were riding collided with an omaha bound bus with a f full ull load of passengers state highway patrolman gene smith said that two autos were speeding around a curve apparently racing A greyhound bus driven by neldon P miner of salt lake city was approaching from the other direction and the vehicles met headon head on killed were walter rosenlund 21 the car driver of 19 south fifth east street salt lake city a wounded et eran of world war 11 II robert 11 cromar 21 south fifth east street salt lake city former purchasing clerk at the clearfield naval supply depot mr miner driver of the bus suffered fracture of the left wrist lacerations a ce of an ankle and severe shock miners wife suffered severe shock and bruises and many of the 35 3 i eastbound passengers were shaken and bruised however all passengers were permitted to resume their journey after they were returned to ogden and transferred to another bus the double morgan county fatality brought to 40 46 the number of persons killed on utah highways in 1910 1046 19 10 and boosted last weeks fatality toll to three the deaths were the first this year in morgan county Pt patrolman oin smith said witnesses told him the collision occurred on the curve of the two lane highway near the gateway store when two racing automobiles traveling westward suddenly appeared in the path of the bus the huge carrier seemed literally to swallow one passenger automobile leaving only the wheels and fenders of the cars right side within view the other passenger car managed to escape the same fate after the crash the bus swerved into an embankment on the left side of the highway miner told witnesses after the accident that when the passenger car ran under the bus the air brake line was severed and he immediately turned off ahe the ignition and headed the vehicle into the embankment aiding smith with the investigation were state highway patrolmen jack moss leroy olson and ted london sheriff bernard dahlquist of morgan county and his deputy delbert robins one of the victims both of whom were believed to have died instantly st was pinned inside the tangled wreckage the other was found on the exposed portion of the chassis etwas it was at dawn sunday before the debris was disentangled |
