Show letter received from prisoner released i from santo tomas the following letter which will be of interest to morgan readers was just received by richard T fry j manila P I 1 february 6 1945 1 dear dick vi terry and I 1 received your letters this morning dated november 2 and you can well imag imagine ifie how overjoyed we were to hear from you and to know that you are all well we all will be home on the first transportation available which we understand der stand will be at once we are most anxious to see you all again above everything else for the past 13 months we have been in the santo tomas internment compound manila the spectacular capture of this camp by advance units of the united states army which took place february 3 was really a heroic and bold a m ment after three days dabs things I 1 S are still exciting in manila b but t we are safe we were rescued from conditions which were rapidly becoming intolerable the main thing however is that we are sate safe and well although a little on the thin side I 1 now weigh pounds from prewar pre war vi is down to from terry a few months ago weighed 80 and her weight is now 68 she is fine however and has kept very well this good food we have been getting the past three days will soon put the flesh back on us the japs darned near starved us to death they are vicious and wicked we were interned may 10 1942 in mindanao and after three months were transferred by ship to dabao mindanao where we were kept for 16 months then we were transferred by boat to santo tomas mancial arriving here january 2 1944 1044 now we are safe and well tor for which we thank our heavenly father for brin bringing g us through safely the only packages we received were from queena and vis father three in all sent in august 1913 we had a cable sent in july 1943 received in january 1914 1944 19 14 also letters sent by vis folks and mine august 1943 we received one letter from vis father and one from queena dated may 1944 that Is all although we know you have tried repeatedly to get information through to us we were given only one or two opportunities to write you but brut I 1 do not suppose they got through terry talks of you all eve every ry day and is surely anxious to get back she Is having a great time with all of the activity going on now around santo tomas with the army here please let my folks see this letter at once I 1 w will 11 I 1 wr write 1 te them when permission is granted for further correspondence and of course pass it on advis folks at once and tell them we are all anxious to get going on some real home cooking again in morgan we will write again soon and also cable you as soon as the opportunity offers what a great army we have and how brave compared to the non de jap army that we have had to put up with for almost three years love to all remember us to all our friends hope to see you soon NORRIS WADSWORTH |
