Show T washington T I 1 I 1 i NEWS LETTER I 1 i hy by congressman GRANGER I 1 y y survey of opinion approximately 20 percent of the cards mailed from my office to the constituents of the first utah congressional district in an effort to obtain a cross section OR of f opinion on oen onnon universal military training have av now w been returned and tabulated in my office it is evident from the returns that the question of just what compulsory rail military tary training constitutes has not been made clear since so many have indicated their willingness to subscribe to compulsory training yet have added that they want ant that training to include educational opportunities for all who want to continue their studies the plan as now advanced by the army requires every man between the age of 1 18 and 21 deais years to serve one year in in military service such service subject to the sole jurisdiction of the army program the army may subscribe to some educational features in their program however the question is clear cut we either subscribe to one year of compulsory military service or we oppose such a program many have indicated they choose to support other plans for partial military training under an expansion of the national guard or the ROTC plan of training in high schools and ani colleges to date such a program has not been presented for congressional on consideration when all the cards have been returned I 1 will make a full report on the results and although you may not have received a card I 1 will welcome your reaction |
