Show VENERAL DISEASES DISCUSSED AT HIGH SCHOOL A short time ago morgan high school was visited by dr D D carr director of local health tion and director of the division of veneral diseases of the utah state board of health who gave a talk and illustrated lecture on the veneral diseases namely syphilis to the young v women omen and young men of senior high school upon further discussion expression came from a number of the students requesting that a return visit be made and time granted tor for a free discussion with questions were vere held in the high school building with special groups from senior and junior classes the students are as a whole more than anxious to get clean truthful information on the veneral disease attention was called to the last as well as the present meeting to the fact that syphilis and gonorrhea are two of the most widely distributed diseases of the american people today syphilis alone is oc curIng at the rate of or more annually and gonorrhea is double this figure and so we see that between these two diseases alone we are having not only in utah but in the U S as a whole more cases of veneral diseases than the tot totals a Is of the following so called ordinary communicable diseases namely diphtheria typhoid small pox meningitis and rocky mountain spotted fever it was further called attention that the cause of the disease is known the means of spread are understood and treatment has evolved to the point that in the case of syphilis most of the cases could be brought to the point of bein being 9 noninfectious or cured if only the patient and physician would stick together long enough to obtain same it was called attention to to further that due to the fact that so many cases became burdens either to the immediate family community county or state that it would be economical for the state and nation to launch a program in cooperation with the medical profession which would make treatment available to all in as much that many and sufficient facts fact s are now known c concerning on syphilis and its control it seems that the greatest problem at present is getting the people as a whole to unite in the final march against this disease it is high time that all should unite because 20 per cent or one in five cases of veneral disease is contracted by the age of 20 years and because of insufficient and incompetent treatment a number of these cases have had tragic endings in the past today this is unnecessary we feel that it Is now time for a more constructive program to give general information to the general public at lare lar e and particularly to give groups such information as will reach other groups that is so much needed there is reason to believe that within the next three or five vears that it will result in the united states a united decision as to how such cases cages should be dealfi dealt with undoubtedly within the next I 1 two or three years most states will have adopted a bill of marr marriage agel which will require both parties to toi I 1 have a clearance before obtaining a mafrige license that not io so long in the future will be seen more in the newspapers magazines and outdoor billboards supported by the radio and other means of discriminating truthful information eventually leading to the general ment of all to the point that real results will then become a reality there is no reason why today with every necessity for er this disease cannot be eliminated in the case of syphilis there are a number of signs which should cause any and all patients to immediately seek confident medical attention the first of these in the case of syphilis is a small sore at the point of the initial exposure of infection which may later be followed f ol 01 with enlargement of glands skin rash or er that may be generalized mucus patches in the mouth sudden loss of hair for unknown reasons and any other symptoms which any confident doctor will recognize and whose judgement Jud gement should always be used in such a case should a doctor ask questions tell him the truth should the doctor want to take a microscopic or blood test let him should he prcy scribe treatment then take the treatment let us all unite to give truthful constructive information and action concern frig the veneral diseases the knowledge at hand Is sufficient if only we get into action I 1 the scandinavian countries have I 1 almost wiped out great britian Is doing it america must do it |
