Show beet growers warned against labor violations beet growers of morgan county were warned yesterday against violation of the labor provisions of the sugar beet act by J H rose chairman ot of the county ACA committee mr rose pointed out that two provisions of 0 the act directly apply to labor the child labor clause and the fair and reasonable wages provision where there has been a violation of the child labor law there will be no federal 15 payment this provision reads that no child under the age of 14 years shall have been employed or permitted to work on the farm whether for gain to such child or any other person in the production cultivation or harvesting of a crop of sugar beets or sugar ga r cane with respect to which application tor for payment is made except a member of the immediate family or a person who was the legal owner of not less than 40 per cent of the crop at the time such work was performed er and that no child between the aps ages of 14 and 16 shall have been employed or permitted to work for a longer period than elgh eight hou hours rs in any one day except a member of the immediate family or a person who was the legal owner of not less than 40 per cent of the crop at the time such work was performed inspections will be made in morgan county to see that no farmer who violates the law shall receive a beet payment mr rose said in case of failure to pay fair and reasonable wages the farmer will receive his beet payment after all labor is paid according to the provisions of the act but payment will be held until all labor claims are settled |
