| Show new ore discovery din overy I 1 stimulates tooele thoele area 4 ak 1 A J Y I 1 W 1 Z A V erza 7 view of the dry canyon section of the ophir mining section in right corner at the top can be seen the hidden treasure which Is now producing steadily the dry canyon section 0 of the ahir mining district once again Is the scene of much mining activity as the result of developments in that area in fit recent years approximately men are finding employment in vari varl ouss properties which were virtually idle tor for two decades prior to 1933 rejuvenation of the area followed hollowed toll owed tile the discovery several years ago by two leasers leaders working in the hid den treasure property in the upper end of the district the leasers leaders lea sers lynch and glenny ot of salt lake city opened ore in the madison limestone ot of the hidden treasure and immediately stimulated a wave ot of prospecting to sound out the possibilities ot of this limestone bedding in other sections ot of the district the united states smelting smelling Sm elting refining and mining alining company was attracted by the discovery of the leasers leaders and after careful examination purchased the hidden treasure mine from its eastern owners at the present time approximately 50 men are employed at the property and a fleet of trucks Is being kept busy plying between the district and the rail terminal at stockton hauling production from the hidden treasure from stockton it Is shipped by rail to the midvale plant ol of the U S smelting smelling Sm elting corn com 1 pany with the knowledge gained in the hidden treasure lynch and acquired a lease on th the garber claims across the canyon believing that the madison limestone extended into this property in order to reach the garber property it was necessary to start their work from the wandering jew and drive through about teet feet of the ophir queen mine in driving an inclined through the ophir queen promising new ore showing were encountered from which several shipments of ore have already been made while sufficient work has not been done to determine the importance of this development it has added increased momentum to prospecting in the area altogether approximately men are finding employment in the district and indications are that it Is returning to its former importance as a contributor to industry of the state of utah while some of the men are living in the district most of them return to their homes in the valley below and such towns as stockton bauer and tooele thoele are feeling the stimulus ulus provided by the new developments as well as the state in general |
