Show FENCE POST preservative TREATMENT WILL BE SHOWN farmers interested in fence construction st are invited to attend a d demonstration of two different methods for the preservative treatment of native fence posts to be i bield at the J R and lewis wald lon ion farm thursday april 4 at 9 a in the demonstration will be conducted by the in cooperation with the extension service and J R and lewis waldron co operators sixty native oak maple cottonwood and aspen posts will be given ground line treatment using the creosote and compound methods the scarcity of cedar posts and the high cost of bringing southern utah posts here makes it necessary to use native post material says ja J dale schott district conservation conserva tion one feature of the de demonstration is to show the value of native aspen maple and oak posts the durability of which has long been recognized by some morgan county farm farmers drs W E criddle milton is an ardent advocate of the use of native posts in fencing mr criddle has 5 inch posts on hi his s farm which have been in the ground for over 15 years and are still sound dry posts will be used for the creosote treatment and recently cuti cut post for the preservative demonstration the underlying principle of wood preservation methods Is to poison the food of the insects and fungi that cause decay Osmo sf sp salts containing sodium fluoride are being used for the preservative serva tive treatment of newly cut posts with considerable success in all parts of the united states the treatment costs approximately foura four cents per post |
