Show summit sportsmen reorganize to cooperate with federal program tuesday evening at the court house one of the largest most inter esting and enthusiastic meetings of north summit sportsmen and wildlife lovers in many moons was held explanation of the new wildlife program reorganization of the local sportsmens sports mens association and election of officers was the order ol at the meeting newell B cook utah state game and fish commissioner and chick evans secretary and treasurer of the utah wildlife association were special guests the meeting was called to order by gall stockman of the north summit sportsmens Sports mens association the Co coalville alville wranglers played two instrumental numbers and don stockman two accordion solos P 11 neeley spoke fluently and to the point on the necessity of protecting wildlife and at the same time giving utmost consideration and protection to the property rights of the farmer and ranchman his address was followed by a third instrumental number by the wranglers newell B cook gave an illustrated lecture on wildlife protection I 1 chick evans gave a short address out linning the new wildlife setup set up and its alms aims and the benefits to be derived locally by affiliating with the movement 1 following these addresses a bust busl ness meeting and election of boffl officers were held major wm win L phillips was elected president by acclaim atlon gall stockman vice president and fred wright secretary treasurer P H neeley raymond rees hees Co coalville alville chas anderton henefer He neter D E moore upton bill young Wan wanshin wanship ship were named on the board of directors the name of the local organization was changed to the north summit wildlife federation and will be affiliated with the new national and state wildlife organizations afif fifty ty four members were signed at the meeting and many since have ex pressed a desire to join the new officers expect the local organization to be one of the best and strongest of its kind in the state under the pittman robertson act the taxes collected by the federal government as excise taxes on an firearms shells and cartridges are set apart as a special fund known as the federal aid to wildlife restoration to fund in order to be eligible for these benefits the organization I 1 must be active each state receives 45 cents for each square mile of area within the state and 23 cents for each I 1 license sold within each state in order for the state to receive this money it must match the federal funds one to three or one dollar of state funds to three of the federal utah already has this fund from the extra charge on big game licenses it is well to call attention here that next week march 20 2026 26 h has been designated wildlife week wildlife stamps commemorating the week will be on sale at practically all places of business in this county at a price of 1 cent each the stamps are of many different de signs each picturing an Ame american sican game or fur animal or bird buy a set and help a good cause along the bee wishes to commend the local organization on its choice of officers major phillips is a staunch i worker tor for wildlife protection and a thorough sportsman a better choice for the position of president could not be made mr stockman has been an active man in the sports mens association in the past and it is owing to his untiring efforts and work that the new organization is retting getting away to a flying start mr wright and the directors too are all well known sportsmen and thornly conversant with game conservation work we wish them all success and the same to the organization they represent summit county bee I 1 |
