Show revenues by B K farnsworth field representative that the citizens of utah may know from those who are administering the liquor control act some of its accomplish accomplishments mentz and some of the problems facing the control commission the following information is made public section two of the liquor control act says this art act shall be deemed i an exercise of the police powers of the state for the protection of the public health peace and morals to prevent the recurrence of abuses associated with saloons to eliminate the evils of unlicensed and unlawful manufacture selling and disposing of alcoholic beverages and all provisions of this act shall be liberally construed for the attainment tain ment of these purposes to inaugurate arid and administer this section has been the aim of the liquor control commission and to date in less than one and one half years very satisfactory progress Is noted there has been no recurrence of abuses associated with the saloons the evils of unlicensed and unlawful manufacture of liquor have been reduced to a minimum the bootlegger is whipped illegal revenues that poured into his pockets have now become legal revenue and are going to legitimate sources under state supervision although revenues are not the primary objective of the control act the following information should be of interest to all to date borrowed to start operations has been paid back has been paid the state treasurer has been paid in sales tax has been returned to municipalities in beer licenses at no expense or trouble to them all ol of this money Is a direct benefit to the citizens because it is directly distributed tri buted to them the recent 3 4 mill general levy leva reduction was due largely to accruing liquor profits besides these fabors factors the control commission with cash in banks merchandise on hand paid for and with fixed assets has a surplus of |
