twenty first utah legislature monday started its second week with 25 measures ready for consideration and indications of many more to follow the upper house with urith its newly elected president DT dr herbert 13 maw in command was responsible tor for 17 of the proposed new laws or 01 amendments to existing sta statutes tules the house brought out eight bills the senate also led in introduction of joint resolutions with two in its legislative hopper the lower house housa offered only one fixing pay of legislative isla tive employed emp loyes senate and house members lived up to pre session predictions in con fining their early lawmaking efforts to measures having to do with taxes social legislation and liquor eight of the upper house bills had to do with taxation in some largely aimed at making the corporations po and business in general pay more tor for doing business in utah two house bills were tax mea sure s social legislation had its innings in tour four house bills and three in the senate liquor of the hard variety most widely discussed of proposed 1935 legislation held the limelight with introduction of the state stores bill bib sponsored by the committee of 49 and gov district composed of rich morgan summit wasatch and daggett counties had been placed on five committees they are agriculture and irrigation fish and game mines and smelters shelters sm elters revenue and taxation and trade regulations As a member of the trade regulations ti wis ca committee brinit tt ce sena S senator ena tor hopkin will be called upon to assist in engineering gi the all important liquor legislation coming before the senate taxes and C creation r e a tion of revenue to run the state government will be considered by the committee on revenue and taxation giving this solon a voice in the most important of forthcoming legislation in committee rooms the third district house delegation received fine recognition at the hands of speaker walter K granger in committee assignments in the lower body heber bennion jr of daggett county was one of three representatives to be honored with seven committee assign eints rep clarence cook of rich county and paul M peterson of summit county each received six committee assignments and reps wayne C whiting of wasatch and mark thackeray of morgan county five each making a grand total of 34 committee assignments for third district legislators four more than any other county except salt lake third district legislators are represented on all important committees trade regulations handling liquor legislation appropriations allotting state monies for governmental and relief purposes revenue and taxation levying taxes and judiciary thus they bifi will play prom ment roles in shaping all legislation at the current session first week legislative activities found third district representatives at odds in the f first lower house voting the balloting on a mot motion to reduce the committee set pay of legislative employed emp loyes mr cook voted aye to the reduction motion twice so did reps whiting and bennion mr peterson voted twice in the negative mr Ili thackeray ackeray was absent and not voting the motion was lost
