Show MORGAN PIONEER LADY OF 1859 1959 PASSES TO REWARD funeral services for mrs dorcas gibby pioneer of 1859 were held in the morgan stake tabernacle wednesday with bishop alred f dohman of the peterson L D S ward conducting each speaker paid high tribute to the lile life and character of mrs gibby who was one of the few re maing pioneers of morgan county she was born in cam england on june 1847 a daughter of henry and sarah white when she was twelve her family to america and she came to utah with captain wileys rileys company pulling a handcart most of the way and arriving in salt lake valley september 4 1859 she lived in salt lake for thirteen months then moved to morgan county and settled in round valley where she lived for seven years in 1867 she was married to john gibby mr gibby died in 1903 1908 for the past thirteen years mrs gibby has made her home with her daughter mrs albert whittier of peterson she was an active L D S church worker being president of the morgan relief society for many years and holding several primary association officers four children survive bert gibby of salt lake city hyrum gibby of roy alma gibby of Ri verdale and mrs albert whittier of peterson three children prece proceeded eded her in death surviving also are a sister mrs H B crouch of morgan 35 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren the services were as follows duet by edith and J J johnson the valley of peace invocation wm H dickson solo 1 I know that my redeemer lives A B carrigan speakers R R fry and H B crouch sketch of life of mrs gibby mrs cynthia carrigan musical reading arise my soul arise mrs carma newbold re remarks marj pres M H randall james carrigan bishop bohman quartet 0 my father mrs flaurie white mrs erroll enoil en oil eddington newell newel waldron howard francis benediction walter G waldron interment was made in the south morgan cemetery the grave being dedicated by C C geary |
