| Show new guinea sept 16 1943 dear family for the first time cirile in better than two months im able to sit down and relax rest reft to so to speak also for the first time in equally as long a period im able to lathe bathe clean my teeth and wash out my clothes it so happens that were camped by a small stream thus permitting us id have plenty of water where as before we have enough to drink I 1 guess youve heard all the good news from this theater of war and im damned thankful to come through unscratched im hoping not to have to go through another like campaign you dont know what a treat it is not to have to live in old mother earth and to be able to go to bed in safety 1 1 just wished for those two things I 1 cant say just what lies in store I 1 fr for 0 us but im of the opinion that wo will in due time get our long over overdue du due e leave its only been two years since we had such a thing ill bet that would would be tough on the boys back there not only that but weve been out of civilization three fourths of a year with nothing but high mountains jungle swamp and dense underbrush gee im looking forward to that day when I 1 can greet you all at the doorstep but im afraid were over overseas until japan cracks as does germany that day is a long way off even though hough we beat them in every engagement I 1 ga I 1 know what front action I 1 feol feel Is from my own experience within myself that I 1 am doing my port part but I 1 cant see why we should have to stay over seas for the duration when in the U S over there are so many itching to come well dear mother keep up your smi smile 1 god good spirit and ever happy permitting I 1 will be back home and how I 1 will enjoy those good meals that only dear good mothers like you know how bow to cook As for you dad ill get you plenty of beer I 1 want my sisters and brothers to keep mother front row d do 0 that and dad in the very hard in work for me wont you school that too is mighty important im Irn I 1 write me as often as you can those I 1 precious letters from home they give me new hopes they are the only pleasure we boys have over here yes I 1 want to add to that all of you folks back home write to your sons god bless you all your loving son TYE LITTLE E |
