DEF deferments HELP FARMS draft deferment and other measures taken to conserve agricultural labor put more men of military age to work on farms during the first six months of this year than in the same months of 1942 according to a report to offset nit net losses of workers of military age from farms during the last half of 1942 so that the number of such farm workers in in I 1 luly july of this year was the same as the number a year earlier the report indicates that the drain on farm workers to the armed forces and war industries which was very ver j heavy until about the end of 1942 had been largely checked by the middle of this year despite an increase in the armed forces of over five million during the preceding 12 months
