Show Family Teaching Importance Stressed At Stake Conference Elder Harold B B. B Lee of the Council of the Twelve Apostles in speaking at the quarterly conference of lof the South Sanpete San pete Stake held in Manti on Sunday March asked that the people of the stake work harder to make the Manti Temple the symbol of right righteousness ss' ss H He also stressed stress ed that the temple is one of the few chosen places where the Lord himself will come Elder Lee said that those who settled this valley were men and women of faith who never rested but changed jobs when they tired He said they also practiced loyalty thrift and industry paid their debts debts' promptly and took care of of their own poor He asked that the people of this stake emulate emu late the examples of their forefathers Out of some 50 marriages in inthe inthe the stake last year Elder Lee noted only 20 were performed in the temple and said that the temple could be a symbol we could depend on in the storms of life He asked that the members of the congregation tion memorize Verse 24 of Sec 90 in the Doctrine and Covenants The visiting apostle stressed the importance of the Priesthood Priest hood in carrying out the Home Evening Program He said If parents will teach virtue and integrity not one will go as as- tray In commenting on values gained from attendance at conference Elder Lee said It isn't what you remember of what is said but it is what you feel and what you determine determine deter deter- mine in your heart you will do because of what you have herd heard that is important Also speaking at the morning morn ing session of the conference was Elder Don H. H Rasmuss n of the General Priesthood Home Teaching Committee who vho said If you are not teaching your children in the home heme they are being taught someplace else They are in inthe inthe the process of learning con con- Families have fun having experiences together but you have to work at it The basic institution of learning learning learn learn- ing is the home with the Father as the leader Elder said that the Family Home Evening is the most important meeting a family mily can hold Sacrament meetings is a teaching opportunity opportunity for the family The reading of scriptures is a third basic interest It was stated that there are 1200 families in the stake with some holding Home Evening President Vernon Kunz conducted con ducted the conference ses ses- In his opening remarks he asked Are we failing t teach our children God saving principles He compared the problems and of the world today with those of oC the days of Noah and suggested suggest ed that in solving the problems lems we stay close to the Lord and increase our individual testimonies and hold our Home Evenings Also speaking peaking at the morning morn ing session were J. M Beal with Norma S. S Olson and Eunice A. A Garbe as accompanists Invocation was given by John D. D Rogers of the Manti Temple presidency The Singing Mothers then sang In His Steps Pres Milton D. D Armstrong of the stake presidency spoke on the importance of the family and the three steps he felt each father should follow in the guidance of his family These duties he felt were in teaching his family to pray and holding family prayers conducting family home evenings eve and attendance at sacrament sac meeting The next speaker was the theother theother other member of the stake presidency R. R Clair Ander son He told the audience that he felt he lived among c choice oIce people He also told of a letter he had received from Dr Hugh Nibley regarding the history behind the word Man t ti He cited Book of Mormon places and persons which bore that name A vocal selection Abide With Me was then performed by the Singing Mothers Mrs Afton W.
