Show BASEBALL Aurora Tops Ephraim For Championship MANTI I BEATS MONROE l FOR THIRD PLACE Aurora earned first place honors in the Sevier Sanpete-Sevier league last Sunday as they won over Ephraim 10 to to 9 in the championship game at Salina In the first game of the afternoon afternoon afternoon after after- noon Manti ManU beat Monroe also by bya a 9 10 score to claim third place in the final standings Both games were loosely played with a tO total 11 of 31 errors being bv by the four teams in their games Monroe and Ephraim the eventual eventual eventual even even- losers both seemed to have their games iced at one time but Manti and Aurora came back late in their games and won Monroe led Manti ManU 9 to 5 at the end of 6 I innings and Ephraim had a six run lead over Aurora at the same period in their game The Manti ManU Game Asay the starting Monroe pitcher appeared d to be going strong as he retired the Manti batters without a hit the first two innings In Inthe Inthe Inthe the third inning Que Christensen got the first Manti ManU hit He ad advanced advanced ad- ad when Max Cox got on base on a Monroe error Dean Denn Braithwaite Braithwaite Braithwaite Braith- Braith waite then laid down a nice sacrifice sacrifice sac sac- bunt and advanced the runners runners runners run run- ners into scoring position Don walked on four pitches pitch pitch- es and Carl Stott hit a line drive into the outfield Stott was out trying to stretch his hit to a double double dou- dou ble jle but two runs counted In the fourth inning Manti scored scored scored I I ed a run and had two men in scoring position on just one hit Monroe errors gave Manti this run Asay really got into trouble in inthe inthe inthe the fifth inning With men on base Carl Stott got a good hit and two runs scored while Stott was taking second base on an error Cecil Cox then walked and Lester ester Larsen was hit by a pitched ball jail to load the bases with will only one out Monroe then called in Ned Jed Nielson to take the over pitching pitching pitch- pitch ing ng from Asay and he retired two men without allowing a score Monroe had their big inning in inthe inthe the he last of the sixth when they added five runs to the four they made earlier Helped by a bevy of Manti errors and some good hits lits of their own Monroe took a 3 commanding lead and it looked as though hough the game was theirs One On of the features of this inning was wasa wasn a n beautiful peg home by Dean Lund Mantis Manti's Deans Dean's throw went straight to Que Chrisensen Christensen Christensen Chris- Chris ensen at the plate and was one of the nicest throws of the afternoon after after- noon Dean drew a big laugh from the fans ans a couple of plays later when he ic returned the ball to the infield infield in- in field and bounced it off the noggin of I. a pitch and more hits by jy Aurora tie tied J up the score 9 to 9 Then with men on 1st and 3rd bases and two out Taylor came I to o bat for Aurora Graser got two wo strikes on Taylor and it looked
