Show F ct c- c v- v i t t Know Your Utah r So this is Know Your Utah Week That's a mighty fine start for Utah's new Governor to make by proclaiming such a week at the very start of his administration It will doubtless cause many citizens to pause and take stock of just what the state has or has has' not to make it a choice living place We have an idea that the people who generally speaking speaking speaking speak speak- ing know most about Utah's good points are the men who served in foreign lands during the recent war Perhaps they will stammer and stutter when you ask for some specific item in which Utah but it doesn't take long for some answer answer answer ans ans- like I know Id I'd have given my right arm for a drink of cool Utah water when I was on Okinawa I I would gladly have given all North Africa for just one acre of good old Sanpete soil I think I missed the mountains and the hunting and andi i fishing most that is besides my folks girl friend and other friends I always caught myself thinking humming or whistling whistling whistling whist whist- ling one of our good old Sunday School songs like Utah W V Love Thee lee Utah the Queen of the West or Our Mountain MountainHome MountainHome MountainHome Home So Dear And how I longed to be again in a Sunday Sunday Sunday Sun Sun- day School or Mutual meeting with my folks and friends in Utah All I have to do to stop complaining of this bitter cold weather is to thi think k back on those months spent in New Guinea I would have gladly given a leg to be back home for white Christmas and free for a a moment from those pesky insects and the terrible heat When I saw the want and suffering in Europe I decided decided decided de de- de- de I never wanted to leave Utah again Yes the veterans can tell you why they like Utah They know the blessedness of living here because of the experiences experiences experiences ex ex- they have had in other lands and in other states If you want to know Utah in a way you will appreciate the state get in a conversation with a veteran or a group of veterans who served overseas And nearly always they will come back to the topic of Utah's people Take away the beauty of the mountains I the valleys sheltered from tornados and floods the grandeur of the parks the flavor of the fruit the perfume of the flowers and leave only the type of people found here and Utah would still be tops Ask the vets and see if that thatis is not so |
