Show D Do o We e Know now Our Children During recent years we as parents have lave been weaning ourselves from our children We fail in our responsibility ity ty and do not have enough interest to o know just how our children are getting along or just what they do doo doto doto to o amuse themselves I guess we just dont don't care At least that is the statement some have made to me As stated by Judge Malcolm Hatfield in n his book Children in Court Parents Parents Parents Par must develop a common interest with their children by attending and taking part in their recreational and social functions A special committee in Manti has put forth a special effort and has provided splendid dances so that it will not be necessary for our young folks to go to neighboring communities ties ies every time they want a fun dance The youngsters from twelve to nineteen nineteen nineteen nine nine- i teen years of age have shown their appreciation by attending in large numbers But again we find that the parents are not interested in the welfare welfare wel- wel fare are of their children This is evident by the fact that at the last two dances only four and six married couples attended Children and resent the absence of their parents Knowing that their children were go going going gong go- go ing ng to attend these dances many parents parents parents par par- had their own social affairs which they felt they miss or i leave early This attitude is very unfair unfair unfair un un- fair to our children In most cases we just dont don't stop to realize the effect ef effect effect ef- ef it has on our youth Another example of our thoughtlessness thoughtless thoughtless- ness was demonstrated at our last T. P.-T. A. A meeting Part of the program was presented by two thirty-two of f our students Only eight of their parents were in attendance Nothing but illness ill illness illness ill ill- ness should keep us from the performances performances performances per per- of our children Can we blame our children for their indifference ence and aid of in independence when we show no more interest than that If we expect to do right by our children we will have to forget some of our own supposedly Important social and business affairs and get acquainted with our children be their pals When our children be become become become be- be come delinquent it is because we have failed in our responsibility Let usall us usall usall all resolve that this year we will make mak the Ule interests of our children our interests in interests interests in- in and share with them the successes successes successes suc suc- and failures they meet Get out and support the dances so that they can meet the financial needs and have them continue Judge S.
