Show WHAT DO YOU THINK By UNNIE LINNIE M. M FINDLAY What makes a true citizen of Sanpete Is it it Having at least two generations before you born and raised in Sanpete or being descended from someone whose nickname was more familiar to his friends than his given name Is it having a real interest in your fellow men men enough enough that even though your burden is heavy you can reach out and help a neighbor to carry his Is it having a confidence in yourself sufficient to have confidence confidence confidence dence in another believing another believing that the best people in the world are gathered in Sanpete Or having had enough trouble that you can share another's trouble with understanding rather than criticism Is it living unbelieving that if you were born in Sanpete that it doesn't matter where you go youve you've had it worse yet maintaining maintaining maintain maintain- ing a loyalty that forbids an outsider to call Sanpete desolate Is it believing in sufficiency self-sufficiency enough to worry that Sanpete once called the granary of Utah now produces less than enough wheat for local needs What Is that elusive quality that demands that when you are one hundred miles away or half way around the world in an army camp that you greet other Sanpete residents as old friends even though it is your first meeting Is it something inherited from the early settlers whose courage courage courage cour cour- age and determination gave us what we have today Is it a feeling you get when you first look into the Valley just after you come over Hilltop Is it a heritage you feel more than think about A great debt we owe to those whose faith and endurance endurance endurance endur endur- ance withstood much to make the land productive Perhaps this is part of it There is surely much more What do you think |
