Show City Focuses Attention On Skunks The Manti City Council minus only one member took a serious serious serious se se- rious look at the skunk problem which faces Manti and Sanpete County last Monday night The one missing councilman was E. E Mayo Sorensen who had undergone major surgery several several several sev sev- sev- sev eral weeks ago and is now re re- re- re The skunk control problem was brought up by Councilwoman an Margaret Anderson She noted noted noted no no- ted that County Agent Del C C. C Purnell had agreed to meet with the Manti ManU and Ephraim councils in a joint meeting to demonstrate demonstrate demonstrate demon demon- strate various kinds of traps The council authorized Mayor Leslie J. J Anderson to contact Spencer Madsen f to see if he would be interested in doing the trapping of these animals They also instructed the City Recorder Record Record- er Bart A A. A Peterson to send a aletter aletter aletter letter to the Fish and Game urging their cooperation with this matter In other matters coming before before before be be- fore the council Monday night Mr Long a new resident of Manti met with the legislators in regards to a junk yard that thatis is by his home He bought the home of Mrs Henry Maylett on Fifth North Mr Mr- Long said that he realized that the individual who operated the facility Mr Mower had to make a living but wondered if the materials could be moved to another lo location location location lo- lo cation away from any homes The council felt that there were several ordinances which would force Mr Mower to move the materials away specifically Ordinance No 23 But they felt that they would like to work with Mr Mower to find a suitable suitable suitable suit suit- able solution Target date for forthe forthe forthe the cleanup is Dec 1st Councilman Ben Kjar discussed discuss discuss- ed the revision of Exhibit A of the Contract Rate of Delivery for electricity purchased from the Bureau of Reclamation The figures had been revised to read kilowatts to be delivered in inthe inthe inthe the winter months and in inthe inthe inthe the summer A motion was passed authorizing the mayor to sign the revision Councilman Morgan Dyreng commented that the city treasurer treasurer treasurer treas treas- had received many complaints complaints complaints com com- plaints about high water bills He said that the past summer had been a very dry season and that a great deal of water had been used He also discussed the possibility ity of setting up measuring devices devices devices de de- de- de vices on the springs in the mountains mountains mountains moun moun- to see what flow of water comes from the springs during the winter months Mayor Anderson reported on ona ona ona a trip he had taken into the mountains with Forest Ranger Karl Haaser The main topic of discussion was the Jets Reservoir Reser Reser- voir They also looked over some of the city springs and noted that they were holding up good for this time of year The mayor also read a letter from Mr Haaser which advised the city of the closing of the Patton Road permanently This is being done for the range rehabilitation rehabilitation rehabilitation re re- re- re habilitation program It will be maintained now as a stock trail and anyone using it will have to go by horseback or by foot The council also pondered the adoption of an ordinance to prohibit prohibit prohibit pro pro- hibit any corrals within the city limits The matter was tabled for the present until more information information information in in- formation can be obtained from city attorney Dilworth Woolley Mayor Anderson reported on ona ona ona a meeting held prior to the regular regular regular regu regu- lar council meeting at which Councilwoman Margaret Anderson Ander Ander- son Councilman Ben Kjar and North Ward Bishop Ray Cox were also in attendance The North Ward is exploring the possibility of capping the creek behind the North Ward and the city hall They wanted the city to furnish a share of the labor This matter would also involve several property owners on the south side of the North Ward The matter was tabled until further further further fur fur- ther study could be made |
