| Show Says Swim Swimming ing Pool Does Not Spread Infections There has been considerable speculation by a few apparently uninformed persons in this community community community com com- in regards to the swimming swimming swimming swim swim- ming pool being a source of infection for pink eye and trench mouth A As pool manager I feel this is as far from being factual as some other smalltown smalltown smalltown small small- town gossip that is heard One of the problems of maintaining maintaining maintaining main main- a swimming pool has been the fear of ot spreading di disease disease disease di- di sease through water Chlorine has proven to be le the best answer answer ans ans- answer to this problem Chlorine is effective and the least expensive expensive expensive sive sive chemical available At our swimming pool an i r. r adequate equate chlorine residual is maintained During the time we weh h have ve swimmers a test for chlorine chlorine chlorine chlor chlor- ine content is made hourly to assure the b best st conditions for fora a healthy reci recreation cation The little pool pool is heated and nd chlorinated the same as the large pool but is badly abused b bj by its it's users It is intended that i it l be used by children 7 years of age and under with supervision supervision supervision super super- vision from their parents or guardians Many parents just send their children unattended and others who are there do nothing about the behavior of child children n other than their own Therefore the they bring much into tIle the pool that should not be there These pools are fine facilities for our community and for our pleasure and should be respected respect respect- ed as such instead of hurt by unfounded and untrue statements statements statements state state- ments some people like to make The pool is inspected by the state inspector periodically and water samples sample are taken for laboratory analysis During the three years I t I have been associated associated associated asso asso- with the pool the water equipment and facilities have received an excellent report Personally I swim at least G 6 Gout out of every 7 days each week and can name many others who are our daily customers who have no signs of these In fact I believe they are as healthy as any In town or healthier As for the chlorine it does a great job and no water used for swimming should be without I it However it can be irritating and when one finishes his swim he should take a shower to prevent prevent prevent pre pre- vent the irritation Glen K Goodwin Pool Manager |
