Show Missionary Writes From Danish Isles I Elder Ronald Bruce Kjar now laboring in the Faroe Islands off Denmark has written us a aLry avery a very ry interesting letter which we I would like to share with o 0 our u r I readers Written on February 2 the letter reads as follows I suppose that I h had hod d better belter take a few minutes off to drop you a line and thank you and everyone in Manti for t the their h e i r thoughtfulness this past holiday I Ie season cason e on I 1 am s still sill ill receiving Christmas greetings greetings' and I am thankful for all of the wonderful wonder- wonder ful ul friends who never forget thu the missionaries I received the Messenger of December 27 tonight and since sincee e rc get mail only every two weeks reeks you can believe that it it I gets a thorough going over be before before before be- be fore being fed to the fish or whales as the case may be Speaking of fish I thing that these islands produce the best fish certainly the most lv Pvc Ive ever tasted These islands have havea a total population of not counting all of the incoming and outgoing foreign fishing ships and my companion Elder Thor Thoi- Th I Menson stenson from Idaho and I are working at present on n the second second second sec sec- ond largest island and are really enjoying our work vork here These islands have a very vry int interesting in- in resting t history dating back to the time of the thc Vikings and they are re reone one of the few places which it h have n a v ve e preserved their native tongue If you think the Danish is hard to read reads you ought to try this We Ve dont don't have to worry worry wor wor- ry 13 about learning their language because they all understand Danish nt-nish and a large percent of them know a little English The country is entirely different different different differ differ- ent than any other place Ive I've ever been with a combination of steep rocky hills and a steady downpour of rain The people re re mostly fishers and a few sheep farmers They have a religion which corresponds to the Baptists in England and also also al also al- al so a few members of the Lutheran Lutheran Lu Lutheran Lu- Lu theran church These arc are a very bible conscious conscious conscious cons cons- cious people and dont don't even need to open the bible to be able to read the scripture as they have haveit it memorized They are really a fine people and it is really wonderful to be here and be beable able to give them a chance to hear the gospel that has been so much for us and which many of us have just taken too much for granted It often takes a c com complete o m p pIe 1 e t e change of environment and md an isolation from the members of this Eternal Gospel to be able to really appreciate the blessin blessings blessings bless bless- in ings s and privileges of belon belonging ing to the Church of Jesus Christ In closing I would like to say once once again Thanks to everybody everybody every every- body for all aU the help and the many words of or encouragement Sincerely yours Elder Ronald Bruce Kjar |
