Show News From Our Missionaries ELDER GAYLEN COX WRITES FROM t HAWAII Elder Gaylen Cox son of Mr 1 and Mrs C. C R. R Cox h has s written a note of thanks for the Messenger Messenger Mess Mess- enger and adds a bit of news of his missionary labors in Ha Ha- He writes I have had the privilege of laboring on three of the Islands here in Hawaii and each one has has strengthened my testimony of this wonderful gospel more ana and more 1 I labored for 11 months in Honolulu which I enjoyed enjoyed en en- joyed very much I worked mainly with the Japanese people people people peo peo- while there and I truly learned to love themI them I then labored on Molokai 1 which I believe to be one of the rate opportunities which not I many missionaries receive While I there I labored in the Leper colony of Kalaupapa and it is issom som something thing I shall shaH never forget as long as I live To be able to live with those people day and night and see how happy they are is wonderful I have heard them bear their testimonies ies and when you hear them thank God for being a leper whereas not having been a leper leper leper le le- le- le per might not have brought th 1 In n nn t t th 1 tl hn h 1 IU ac wi WI U II ie c U i it is truly inspiring The liThe cure for this disease is very wonderful now and if caught in it its it's early stages can be cured easier than T. T B B. B or many many other common diseases I Many times while there the I name of President Roscoe Cox from Ephraim was mentioned and they praised him for his work here as mission president I am looking forward to returning returning returning return return- ing to the colony before returning returning returning return return- ing home There is one thing I have found out in going from island to island and that is the friendliness friendliness friendliness friend friend- liness which the people have in their hearts Here in the islands there are 23 different races represented represented represented re re- re- re presented and we have learned many manS of their habits some of them will wiH stay with me and others I wish to drop as soon as possible this being the pidgin English they speak over here When I arrived in the islands islands islands is is- lands I thought that the young people were talking a different language but it is ju just ct pidgin English which even the missionaries missionaries missionaries mission mission- aries pick up in no time at allI all I leI have had many wonderful experiences while on my mission mission mis mis- sion but I believe the one that means most to me is with a Filipino couple in H Honolulu o 0 n o 0 I 1 u 1 u u. u They were converted in just A I hours and today they are doing more work than most mission mission- mission mission-I aries They have converted several several several sev sev- eral Filipino people and Brother Corpus and his his' wife have nearly nearly nearly near near- ly completed translating the Book of Mormon lormon into one of the Filipino languages He has been at this work for nearly a year now and he plans on having it finished by this fall when he will be able to go to Salt Lake City for the first publication of the Book of Mormon lormon in Filipino We Ve call him the walking testimony testis s mony Gaylen winds up his letter by telling of his love for the people people peo peo- pie he has been with on his mission and expressing his feeling feeling feeling feel feel- ing that his mission is ending too soon |
