| Show HIGH WATERS RAISE HAVOC THROUGH SANPETE COUNTY Come Hell lIell and high water I they say The high water is raising h l h 1 with the lower end of the valley these days as record record record rec rec- ord run-off run is flooding the meadow meadow mea men dow lands washing out roads and bridges and practically isolating isolating isolating iso iso- lating cattle and sheep on the West Vest side of the of-the the valley The River Bridge west of Manti and and the Gr Grade de west of Ephraim have both taken a beating from the high waters and there seems to be a general belief that the high water runoff runoff runoff run run- off is far from over The River Bri Bridge ge west of Manti washed partly out early Monday when the west end of the bridge sank about 3 or 4 feet and the east end cracked and threatened to go V Water ter has been pouring over the grade west of Ephraim washing out the south part of the road somewhat somewhat somewhat some some- what as ns the water heads for Gunnison And down in Gunnison they have more water than they care to talk about With the Gunnison Gunnison Gunnison Gun Gun- nison Reservoir filling at a n ra rapid rapid rapid ra- ra pid pace it was necessary to turn the water loose over the thc dams dam's flood gates and this stream proved to be more than the canal draining the reservoir could handle The road at Christianburg has been awash wash with truck traffic prohibited and autos permitted to pass only at their own risk Gunnison has suffered some flood damage but they have been working to keep the water within ditches and canals as asb b best st as they can One Gunnison resident told us of having called Owen Gregerson to bring his heavy y equipment up to build up upa a stream bank at 2 n a. a m. m Tuesday as ns the waters began cutting the bank badly in places A ride between Ephraim and Manti ManU gives hives a person a good look at the tremendous body of water on the lower part of the valley It looks like a lake The waters now on hand ar are apparently coming mostly from from from- valley snows with the snows in inthe inthe the north end of the valley still standing pretty deep With t the e remainder of the valley snows and the huge snow pack in the mountains yet to come down warm weather in long stretches is something most are looking forward to with grave apprehension 11 |
