Sophia Hansen Dom Dom- T gaard aard 88 died at her home here early Sunday from infirmities duea due duo duoto a to age I She was born in Den mark m November 24 1846 1546 In 1863 1 she emigrated to the United States walking the entire distance across the plains to Salt Lake Cit City arr i ing late in the fall of the same year In 1865 she was married to Niels Peter Domgaard in the Salt Lake I City L. L D. D S. S house immediately after the wedding the nd couple came to Manti where they Ii established a home During the earl early years of her life at Manti she went through the hard ship ship Incident to pioneer life She assisted in the work of the fields tying bundles of grain r During tho grasshopper war she she went Into the fields to help in the work of extermination An incident which Ich she often oHen related was to the effect that with the exception tion ot of about an acre all their grain had been destroyed by the p pests ts She her husband and children childre were yer very I anxious to save this small patch of grain it being all they would have haye hayer to sustain life through the coming r winter winte To their dismay however a great swarm of grasshoppers set seL tied down on this remaining grain and proceeded to devour our it Mrs Domgaard knelt in prayer and when she arose the grasshoppers ers left the field geld and the grain was saved sayed This portrays the faith in God of this good woman She endured the hard ships of the Indian wars For the past 46 years she has been a wid ow She has reared her family and true to the blessing given her her table has never lacked th the th-j necessities ties of life She was a very prayer I fur ful ul woman and a t observer of the Word Vord of Wisdom She was the mother of nine sons and daughters five fi of whom sur survive vive Mrs Sophia JOp Heno Nevada Mrs Margaret Kammer man Dan pan Salt Lake City Hyrum Dom Donl gaard Montpelier Idaho John I Domgaard Glenwood and Wilford Domgaard ManU Manti 39 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren also alGo I survive Funeral services wore conducted In n the L.
