Show MARIUS JENSEN MAKES TIM WAN WAN- PAN CLIMB CUMB The call of natures nature's beauties sent an invitation to one of our townsmen Marius Jensen and he responded to the call and made the great hike to the top of old Tamp Timp last Saturday In spite of his sixt sixty sixty six six- t ty eight elgh years of active life he conquered conquered conquered con con- the great old mountain and was at the top Saturday morning among almost the first to arrive ark It was a hard climb and taxes tares the strength of the most active He Heis Heis Heis is not anxious to repeat it but it was glorious and worth while The truck in which he traveled left Provo Friday afternoon carrying carry carry- ing lug a party of 19 mountain climbers boys boys and girls men and women some quite aged They drove to I Aspen Grove and th there re made camp for the night The brisk mountain mountainair I air was refreshing but toward m mOrnIng mOrn mOrn- rn- rn Ing was rather chilly especially for those who had no bedding and none to much clothing and they drew ever nearer to the dying embers of the great bond fire as the night ad ad- At 3 30 and 4 o'clock Inthe in inthe inthe the morning hikers were up and stirring and some were already on the trail Mr Jensen was among the he early ones More cautious than I those of less experience he allowed them to push on ahead Climbing for two hours up through tumbled boulders tinkling streams forest fastness and a nt growth of or f many b beautiful pe colored flowers the steady climb and the great height heigh t began to tell and many there I were sat by the trailside al almost almost almost al- al most despairing of reaching the top Perseverance determination a pair of ot good stout legs and a cane were the deciding factors and to stimulate u these light lunches ana and refreshments carried by the hikers lent encourage encourage- ment Two hours more of effort and the las lash step up was at at- at I at-I tamed There on the backbone of the great the triumphant hant pant hikers sat down and gazed upon upon upon up up- on the beautiful landscape in the valley below the clustered cities the tumble of lesser mountain and Utah Lake Gazing to his hearts heart's content and amply rewarded forthe for forthe forthe the four tour hours of effort the down trip was started and camp reached in much less time than it itt t took ok to ascend made There were thousands who I the trip during the 1 two days especially tallY selected to make the hike hiko They were all pleasant hikers full of life full of fun eager to I lend a helping hand to a tired climber climb climb- er or share their lunch or other chore choice bitof bitof bit bitor or chocolate or any of or refreshments they chanced to have with those less fortunate In the party Mr Ir Jensen accompanied accompanied nearly there were hikers from every part of the state and some soma from distant states |
