Show rax bl LL tour arlis 8 IN 1 DI lra the tax reform league met in delta last saturday at the bink dink B ink hotel to confer with the representatives of the west side towns and to urge them to obtain more members the league Is a new departure in organizations and are trying ac cording to their by laws to have the property tax practically eliminated and have an income tax and sales tax take its place their platform reads I 1 shall in the end tax mainly incomes inheritances and the gains from any occupation or business 2 shall amend the constitution to permit higher graduated taxes on corporate and ind individual incomes 3 tax public utilities and corporations according to their incomes millard county levies so that they will receive some to a year for state and county taxes of this the union pacific pays some somo the telluride power co and other utilities make up about 10 and the business houses etc 60 to 70 and the farm ers this year paid 70 the plan to tax incomes depends on whether they will tax gross or net incomes in case they tax net incomes the bellu ride power co will not have to pay any tax the union pacific shows a loss in millard county and would not have to pay a tax and many of the business houses in the county would pay no or else a lot less taxes so that the farmers would have the most of the tax burden ehrnst upon them inthis county to raise in millard county countr without the help of the rail road and other public utilities would mean that every man woman and child in the county would have to pay 25 per person each year the plan of the tax reform league Is not definite as yet and to endorse en dorsel a plan that we know nothing about would be foolhardy at this time but we know this that millard coun colin ty has a small population and a large area with utilities paying the greater part of the taxes and to cut out the payment of taxes by the utilities at present would mean that the county could not operate we will have to wait and see just what the tax reform league plans before we pass judgment as a plan to 0 o raise the unpopular sales tax would not take well with the people and a plan to raise taxes through the taxing of incomes would not under the present conditions bring in en ough money to operate our various municipal governments |
