Show DEPARI departures URES the following appeared in the salt I 1 lake tribune oct 9 1933 we are in a period of 0 change and likewise in one of uncertainty in the main we are prone to tolerate experimentation we are bogni zant of a critical venture in nation al affairs and incline to hope for the ultimate solution because of this we accept changes and departures in ili the established practice of gov without reserve we have been swept on by b a terrific human problem a demand for human relief t which cannot be denied the problem persists and we are not quite sure where we are going we are seeking a way out this thing naturally has resolved itself into a great governmental government aT effort to forestall suffering and dissipate nils ery gigantic sums of money are being devoted to this effort to re habilitate our citizenship regardless of the ultimate accounting we undoubtedly will pursue this i lem to its logical end meantime we should not lose of our objectives we must not burden this effort with matters that are not directly pertinent to the main problem human liberty and individual initiative are cherished possessions of american citizenship As a people we look to our govern ment for help but not tor for depend ency such a danger attends gov ern mental efforts which exceed the power of a people to reassume their governmental ties and he the ultimate determination of thein government |
