Show FILLMORE SUFFERS WORST W FLOOD IA HISTORY afif unsay evening a cloudburst oc burred in the canyon to the east ot of centering in fillmore can yon north can candon on and pioneer can yon and swept throng fillmore and the country north of there the flood was the worst one that old tl ti mer mere could remember and gave ev ery evidence of its enormity in the extent of damage done rile fhe flood coming down chalk cheek swept completely over the ce ment bridge north of fillmore and covered it with almost two feet ot of water it swept small buildings and chiel en coops away killing a lot of i livestock and poultry and left mud brush stumps and rocks along its course the rest of the flood was center ed on the hill north of fillmore and across five mile flat and at its height was from two to three feel feet deep in many places traffic was tied up three hours while the waters raged among the motorists delayed was francis kelly who was returning from proto and f bit hit the first of the water at ic speed and the mud blinded him so that he be had to feel his way thru the first part of it thru five mile flat he then came to the next flood where it was running close to ehret feet deep and after start ine ing into it he thought better and backed up as the water had washed his car nearly three feet across the road and was getting deeper and deeper he was marooned between the two floods for about three hours at nine thirty in the evening when the writer came along there was still plenty of water running down the hill above the cedar road and it was wits between three and nine inches deep i then but no brush nor heavy rocks were in the water the flood will do a great deal of damage to livestock homes and the small buildings and especially to the crops in the lower and north arii part of lill billmore more this Is the second flood in two years but this flood was much larg er or than the other othir and centered in one canyon only which added to the concentrated volume of water in the two main places |
